A Toast From His Fan
On Dec.31 of each year while we are toasting the New Year in, we will be missing some of the greatest talent that has ever been in our lifetime. Jack Lord being one of my favorites, whose multi-talents were known to
most of his long time fans such as myself. His early works consisted
of plays such as "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" and one of my favorites: "The Vagabond King". Then he made numerous movies such as "Gods Little Acre", "Man of the West","Tip on a Dead Jockey" ,"The
Court Martial of Billy Mitchell", "Project X", "Cry Murder",
"The Doomsday Flight", "The True Story of Lynn Stuart, "The Hangman", "Walk Like a Dragon", "Dr. No." and many others. Then in 1961 he did his first TV series "Stoney Burke", until 1962, making 36 episodes.
In 1968 he started what would be the longest running police show in the history of TV, "Hawaii Five 0". That was and still is one of the most popular shows running today, both on public and cable stations.
That show ended in 1980. He made a Pilot show" M Station Hawaii"
that was to be another series, but that never materialized.
Jack Lord was born John Joseph Patrick Ryan on December 30,1920
in Brooklyn, New York City, New York. He took his stage name from a
distant relative. He died January 21,1998 at his home in Hawaii. A very
sad day for all of his fans. Unlike many today, he was very good to his
fans, with pictures and autographs. He was never too busy to oblidge.
He was a perfectionist in his work, and a very private man. He brought many hours of happiness to millions of people with his craft. He also was an established artist before he was an actor. So Jack,
here's to the rest that you so earned, and we will always remain
your devoted fans.
